A Day in Osaka
Yesterday John and I left Kyoto early to go to Osaka to meet Blair and some of his friends from the JET program. We found out on the way there that there are more trains in Osaka than anywhere, or so it seemed. After many transfers, we got there.
We met up with his friends and walked around Osaka, enjoying many of the shopping districts and searching out a giant ferris wheel. We stopped for lunch at a Mexican restaurant (they were all craving a taste from home), it was actually pretty good for Japanese Mexican food.
After lunch, we located the ferris wheel and waited till it was almost dark to get on. The ferris wheel is on top of a large department store and it 160meters tall. The thing is massive and anyone afraid of heights would do well to stay away.
After that, we wandered the city. Checking out the lights after dark which were pretty amazing. We went to a cafe where you could play with dogs while you drank coffee or tea, then hit a Japanese burger place for dinner. John and I left shortly after dinner so we wouldn’t miss the last train home.
Today after the group goes to Nara (we will be going tomorrow, we had to deal with a hotel switch today), we will meet up with them in Kyoto to go see a large temple. It should be another fun day. It’s nice to be led around for a change rather than having our noses stuck in our maps. Although John and I are very familiar with this area now, so it might be us that’s doing the leading…
